Popular Photography did a test of this lens against the then current 80-200mm/f2.8 and found little difference (I think) from f5.6 onward. Of course, I think the AFD 70-300mm ED is a killer lens for not much more money, and would probably be better balanced on an N80. Incidently, Pete Turner is on record as saying (on Nikon.Net) that the AFD 70-300mm ED is his favorite lens.
