A pair of Pintails in cold winter sunshine over the famous Slimbridge reserve in south west England

Some of you may have seen these before on DPR but they reproduce so nicely on this website that I thought I'd give them another airing.

Fantastic imajes cj. That black headed gull has got this walking on water lark down to a fine art :)

Excellent shots. Fine work there and a pleasure to see.

All the best your way.

Danny.

Excellent set of photos. Nice to see a good sized floc of Red Knots as I know their numbers have crashed lately, at least on the east coast of the US. The running puffin is terrific; something I've never seen before.

Thanks. A significant proportion of the world population come to over winter on The Wash in eastern England. It is a huge shallow inlet from the North Sea that has huge areas of exposed mud at low tide. A few days a year the tides are so high they cover all the mud and the birds come onto a gravel pit for about an hour and if this occurs during daylight the bird watchers flock to enjoy the spectacle. The gravel pit was dug in WW2 to build airbases and I wonder what the birds did before that as the birds don't like being amongst vegetation.
