They are ubiquitous parasite & dead skin removers, seen throughout sub-Saharan Africa, who share a very symbiotic relationship with many of the mammals that they ride to and fro upon.

Cheers Ken, I'm not really a birder to be honest, large mammals have always been more my thing, but over the last decade or so I've paid more attention to them, especially if they are trying to get my attention by perching on the large mammals I am shooting. ;)

I love the co-operation/co-existance wildlife lives by. Great captures.
Thanks. it very interesting to watch the interaction betwen species. Sometimes it is very subtle though.
