Imaging Resource Times Out

maybe just a server issue?

There were reports on DPR too. I tried but can't connect to the site. It's last Facebook entry was on March 29...

Sad if it really goes.

Very happy with its reviews which covers interesting features ignored by many. E.g. it could be the only site which had tested the battery life of Live View and non Live View shooting of same camera. It had also tested the low light AF ability of cameras rather than just uding the spec sheet data. Also the AF and shutter lag... It's 3D lens global sharpness graph is not easy for direct comparison but still useful than many.

Will this be the future of the industry, the hobby?

It seems that this is more serious than I thought. I am afraid, Imaging Resource is not coming back.

The website is still not available and no information on their facebook page about it. This is a strong indication, that this is not a technical problem.

In 2019 IR reported, that they have to scale their website down to a minimum, because they have to advertisement income anymore. DPreview also wrote an article in Oct. 2019 about it:

Then Imaging-Resource was taken over in March 2020 by another company called "Madavor Meda". They operate also Outdoor Photographer, Digital Photo Pro, Digital Photo and HDVideoPro.

But Madavor Media was aquired this year (February 2023) by a company called "BeBop Channel Corporation" (OTC PINK:BBOP):

It seems that Bepop has more interest in the Jazz publication of Madavor Media. Looking at all these details, it seems that they do not care about Imaging Resource and just shut it down without any further notice.

I tried to reach Imaging Resource already in March this year. Via Email and via Linkedin directly the founder Dave Etchells. A second time 1 week ago. No reactions at all.

Will this be the future of the industry

It seems at the moment that way. It is all about money. You can not make big profits anymore with photography in the internet. That time is over.

The more important it is for us now, to make DPRforum as strong and as big as possible. Then we might be able to make even more out of DPRforum than what we see today.

We have a great and futureproof software setup, which does not costs a fortune to run like in the case of dpreview with all this individual programming. It is up to the community to make it now bigger and take the next steps.

It is up to you all, that things like dpreview and Imaging Resource do not happen again. Support us and tell others about us. Read this below and always keep it in your memory:

OBITUARY

Our church was saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else.

Someone's passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than a normal person's share of the work. Whenever there was a job to do, a class to teach, or a meeting to attend, one name was on everyone's list, "Let Someone Else do it."

Whenever leadership was mentioned, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results; "Someone Else can work with that group." It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the most liberal givers in our church. Whenever there was a financial need, everyone just assumed Someone Else would make up the difference.

Someone Else was a wonderful person; sometimes appearing superhuman. Were the truth known, everybody expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone! We wonder what we are going to do. Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow it? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did?

When you are asked to help, remember -- we can't depend on Someone Else anymore.
