Zeiss G21 fast enough

sergio

New Member
Greetings,

I am considering purchasing a 21mm Biogon. Currently own the 28-45-90 primes and the vario. Would the 21mm lens be fast enough for "everyday" use outdoors, and different enough from the 28mm lense to justify its purchase? Would it be hard to use?

Thanks in advance for your comments and best regards,

Sergio

Sergio-
You probably posted this to the wrong forum and thread, but I'll answer anyway.

Yes, the 21mm Biogon is "fast enough" for everyday use outdoors, and yes, it is different enough from the 28 mm to justify it. A great lens, and my favorite lens on the G2 (and I also have the 28, 35, 45, 90 and 35-70).

To make this relevant to the Digital camera forum, I would add that it would be GREAT to be able to use the 21mm Biogon on a Contax Digital-G.

I'm a huge fan of the 21. My biggest difficulties were learning to use the auxiliary finder and keeping stray objects, including myself, out of the frame. I still do this, in fact.

If you enjoy shooting outdoors you'll find the 21 will, literally, expand your horizons.

I'm still a youth to the Contax G, but so far
I'm using the 21 quite a bit outdoors(also have 28,45&90). I've shot a ton with a Nikkor
20-35/f2.8 that's an awesome lens for a zoom, but the Zeiss 21 & 28 combo is giving much sharper results. I'd definitely recommend both lenes.

Don't forget that it is easier to handhold the 21mm in low light than it is a longer lens. The standard wisdom is that you could handhold for 1/20sec exposure time, but I have no difficulty holding for 1/4sec with the G2.
