Birds from the Cypress Swamp

Some shots from today, May 19th at Cypress Wetlands, Port Royal, South Carolina.

Cattle Egret in breeding plumage. A bit of anvader this species, it originated in Africa but has now spread pretty much worldwide (even including EnnZed!)

Anhinga. Sometimes called "snake bird" as it swims with only that long neck above the surface.

Black-crowned Night Heron. Not really nocturnal but they do feed mostly at night.

Green Heron. The smallest heron in North America.

Red-shouldered Hawk. The common hawk of the Southeast USA woodlands.
