Contax flash

I'm thinking to buy a flash to use on Contax Aria camera. Is there anyone that knows I should get TLA280 or 360?

As I understand it, you will get much more control options with the 360. The Aria, for ex&le, can control the flash exposure compensation as well as automatically setting ISO, aperture on the flash. The 360 flash can power down and be brought back with a touch of the shutter button on the Aria.

i do have a 280 TLA,

and i'm angry about have lost 2 sets (expensive)
lithium batteries because it have non
secutity-off-fuse!
when you forget to turn it off, it will need
a new set of batteries!

HI THERE.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE METZ 28C2 FLASH IS COMPATIBLE WITH A RTS & RTS2?

Does anybody know if the TLA30 (now discontinued) can provide flash exposure compensation while in TTL mode? I use the TLA30 on a 167MT body and would like to know if this is possible.

Yup , you certainly can - I use mine in manual mode and adjust the exp. comp dial accordingly . When the flash is on the exp. comp. just adjusts the flash output's duration...... Steve

Thanks for the quick reply. I will try different fill flash this afternoon. I assume that if I perform AE lock in aperture priority with the flash in the hot shoe that the exposure compensation dial will adjust flash output.

This is what I was always led to believe , but I'm now uncertain from what was said on another list! Unfortunately I never really use AP so cant comment from experience - although I have to say that I really dont see any benefit by using AP over Manual in these situations anyway....... Steve

Hi Folks,

I shoot with an Aria and mostly the 50/1.4 and 135/2.8. I am getting more into "event" photography such as weddings, awards banquets, and motion picture still photography. I am looking to step up to an AX or the new "improved" RXII ( more on that another time...).

So here's what's on my mind: I use the TLA360 with a large pocket bounce and an inexpensive side bracket for off camera flash. I use the TLA extension cords ( 3 pin ). I am considering the TLA 480 flash system, but wanted some feedback.

1) Does anyone use this flash ? And what are your opinions?

2) Does the hot shoe connector utilize all 5 pins or just the standard three ? It is a pain when you are on the run and you have to keep synching the F-stop between your camera and flash ( Also when you flip the head up - you lose your distance scale ). Also would like to simply dial in the exposure compensation once and be done with it

3) I saw a Metz 60Ct in action at a wedding. This falsh also allows you to swivel the head up - which the TLA480 does as well, but the way the head is shaped, you can attach many more types of reflectors.

4) Also if I am reading the Metz literature correctly, their SCA adapter for the Contax is using ALL 5 PINS ! Wondering if this was true or not.

5) And lastly, I noticed B&H doesn't list the TLA480 anymore, even though all the N and 645 brochures still have it in there. Did Contax stop production ?

Trying to go to the next level with the manual focus line, which I love. But interested in your opinions on the best purchase decisions.

Best,

Alan
