Contax N1 Zeiss 70-300 Lense

I ve just got the 7-300 vario-sonner ( bought new ), great performance but its stiff to turn and compared to the 24-80 its slow to autofoucus and then sometimes does not autofocus after hunting around. Is this normal because the lense is new ?

In general, the N 24-85 is the fastest AF zoom in the bunch. Most of the early 24-85 zoom ring is too loose and creeps (it turns itself when you point the lens up or down). I have mind adjusted from Contax and now it is relatively very firm to turn.
