And a comparison with my phone camera. Interesting... I just noticed that although the pictures were take a minute or two apart, they both captured a departing airplane at roughly the same location. Note that the DSLR shot is roughly half the original size (~60%) and processed to taste whereas the cell phone shot is full-size and SOOC. Trying to figure out how I can upload the camera shot a full resolution as the DSLR image is 3946 x 2440 -- but it is not displaying at that size. I'll figure it out.

The quality of the Nikon image speaks for itself, it is much nicer overal and although the phone's image is sooc there are a lot of artefacts visible (on the side of the jet bridge for instance) which are typical when using such a small sensor under these circumstances.

Thanks for the look/comment raythentic. Also... shooting though the terminal window at the airport... which isn't always the best (dirty) but I did set the front of the lens tight up against the glass to eliminate reflections as much as possible. I had time, so I was just fiddling around. Here's an attempt to post a larger-size image...

Yeah, as good as the cell image is for its size, --and it is pretty good --- it still can't really compete with a Nikon D810, especially if you choose, or need to do any post processing.

I also find I get more satisfaction taking pictures with a dedicated camera rather than a cell phone. I just shoot for pleasure now, so learning to use a given camera well is part of the enjoyment for me.

Not sure why the "4368837.jpg" image is not opening/visible? Maybe because I am "cheating" -- using "DRP Galleries" to feed the "original" image? I suppose I need to spend $10/mo and get Flickr or Smugmug? I had a Smugmug account back in the day... LOL.

Open in New Tab... and the following appears:

I'LL GET IT straightened out.

I'm thinking it might have to do with whether I "finish" my PP process with Capture One or with Photoshop Elements. That seems to be the variable? Possibly. Another pic I have posed (by the same means/link) is still visible. Hmmmmm. I will continue to investigate. As I said, I am "cheating" a little bit by using "DPR Galleries" as the feed (serves them right.. RIGHT?) -- rather than Flickr, Smugmug, etc.

I have seen the same difference with all the smartphones I used. I could live with that kind of image. But precious moments? I prefer the camera still, at least for anything I want to keep. Of course, even more so for images that are more than snapshots for me.
