File Recovery extension thm

As a result of a mishap I found that I had to use the software supplied with a Lexar 40x CompactFlash card to recover lost images. The images were lost when the card contents were depleted while the camera was connected to the PC and the card was subsequently formatted in the camera. Meanwhile, I discovered later, the images had not been saved on the PC hard disk as had been thought. The data recovery appeared to go well with the required number of files extracted. However they all have the file extension '.thm' and I have been unable to open them using Elements 3.0 or Photoshop7. Any advice will be much appreciated.

The .thm files do not sound like your images. It seems to me that those are thumbnails pictures instead. Your card went through two destructive process - delete and format. Deletion will not delete the file completely, thus those recovery software can save your files easily. But format, depending on the way your camera formats memory cards, is more destructive. If it complete wiped out the card (did a complete format, replace byte-by-byte in all memory spaces inside the card, which is not likely in most cameras) it would be hard to recover. But if not, there're some unformat software out there and may help to recover some of the files though... some image recovery software are specialized in recognizing JPEG image formats from the mess, maybe some experts in this forum could give some advice...
