Help with Lighting with 5400

My photos are coming out too dark with my Nikon 5400 camera. On the display screen, the photos look ok, but when I upload them to my cpu through the nikon view software, the photos are way too dark. My light sources are 3 500W soft boxes. Do I have a camera setting wrong, etc..Please help!! (Beginning Photographer)
