How to capture exact picture framing G1 35mm

New to rangefinder world - I just put my first roll of film through my new G1 35mm and noticed on several occasions the framing (trees, door frame etc) that I had tried to capture was not translated to film. With SLRs this is a no brainer. Is this an experience issue? What do I need to do to get the foreground framing desired?
