Lens designations

This may sound trivial but what is the difference between AE and MM lenses. I've checked the web and haven't found anything to clarify the differences. I have an RTSii and want to know if both types will fit and work or just one series or the other? I'm not referring to the MF/AF differences, but the diaphram systems. Thanks in advance for any feedback. Steve

Hi Steven,

if you do a search in the forum with MM or AE, you will find the thread MM vs. AE easily. Or just look in: Contax User Forum: Contax SLR C/Y-mount: Carl Zeiss lenses - manual focus

Hi Steven,

The MM lens allows Program mode and TV (Shutter Priority). The AE does not.

The easiest way to tell them apart is that the MM lens will have its smallest aperture - usually f16, marked in green.
