i have a canon 50D and i will be buying a new lens soon and i was wondering which is better, (keeping in mind i need reach, its for wildlife photography) the sigma APO 70-200mm 70-200 f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM (with a sigma 2x tele converter or less) or the Sigma APO 120-400mm f/4.5/F4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM. A need something around 300mm, and i was wondering which one people would go for, keeping in mind IQ and all. I cant really go over $1400

thanks

I've no experience with this class of lens, but from reading various forums and tests I would buy Sigma 100-300 F/4 (APO and whatever other abbreviatios follow). I hope you can find it for $1400, although list price seems a bit higher. I searched *bay - some new ones go at $1199.

I would go with the versatility of the 70-200 with a TC....if you however..if you can spring for a little more...I would do the 120-300 f2.8 Sigma....great for wildlife...and with a TC it is a killer combination...

Good Luck..

thankyou all for your comments, i would get the 120-300mm f2.8, but im going overseas soon so i wont have the time to save up for it, but ill probs end up buying the 70-200mm F2.8 with a TC

hmm, ive been looking for some reviews on the sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 *OS* but cant find any good ones, does anyone know any? or a gallery of test photos? im not to sure if i should get it or not coz if it has the same focusing issue like the older non- OS model i probs wont get it.

thanks

Here are a few links to other people's use of the 70-200 HSM some might not be the newer model but I understand the optics on all three versions are almost identical...

Disclaimer: I did not take any of these photos below...I found them to demonstrate to RyziLLa what the Sigma 70-200mm can do..

I don't have any of my shots with mine posted...but those should help you out...I have had a few soft or back focus Sigma lenses...but I send them back to sigma to SPEC-OUT and they always come back spot on....most of the ones I have had trouble with were 2nd hand purchases...

Good Luck...Tony C. :z04_cowboy:
