I got my new Leica CL today, I have finally joined to Leica club.I am also new to this list. I have always wanted a Leica and this is it, I am very excited. If anyone out there has any do's and don't please reply.

Hi Art,

congratulations - the CL is a fine and reliable tool, and if you've also got an Elmar C 4/90, you will be able to satisfy any curiosity, since this is a very discreet set for shots at the mall, at the plaza, within the crowd. The shutter is not exactly as silent as in the M body, but it doesn't make half the noise of a SLR.

I used to work with the CL for almost 15 years, and from my experience there are only two sensitive issues about the body: the takeup spool for the film is of hard plastic, and the takeup teeth break rather easily - so handle with care.

The second crucial point is the TTL meter. Due to corrosion, the meter may be the first thing to fail (no wonder - after 30 years). But as long as it works, it allows great results. It is a real spot meter - quite more exact than the big spot in the M6, if you work with available light mainly. Try!

Your repair person can adjust the meterto use currently available 1.5 volt batteries instead of the 1.3 volt mercury cells that are now banned. Also, that take-up spool thing that tends to break is the same one used in Minolta SLR's of the same vintage and so it's not difficult to locate a replacemet. Otherwise it's a great camera!

A great camera. Did you buy it with a 40mm which is classed as standard on CL cameras? I hope you thoroughly enjoy using it I am sure you will be impressed with the results.

Only a suggestion but try it with some B&W film, say Ilford Pan F and colour slide film say Kodachrome 64. This is Leica territory
