Parisian balconies

I saw these balconies while strolling with my nose to the wind in the Châtelet-les-Halles district.

The lines supposed to be vertical seem to converge toward a point located below your image. As this picture is taken from below, I would have expected these lines to converge toward a point located over the image. Any explanation for this strange phenomenon?

It was purely a vacation snapshot. I actually focused on the guy taking the photo.
