Philosophy of Lens Design Zeiss Leica Canon Nikon

I am interested in the differences in the philosophy of lens design, say Leica vs. Zeiss, and you can add in Canon, Nikon,... Zeiss talks lots about film flatness, uniform quality from center to edge. Some talk about out of focus image quality, or... Has Leica and Zeiss written down their philosophies, or has someone compared the two?
