sd14 sensor damage?

Good day everyone, I'm hoping to get some advice about a strange issue with my sd14.

Today the camera locked up, as it sometimes does. I took the battery out as usual, just to be able to restart the camera. After putting it back in, every image is only half there. The bottom half looks just fine, but the top half is black.

When I look through the viewfinder, all looks fine. But once the picture is stored, it's like half of it is just not there.

I tried a different cf card with no success.
The firmware on the camera is 1.08, so upgrading didn't work.
I took out the ir filter and made some shots, but that was not it either.

Any ideas to what might be going on? I'll try contacting the sigma customer service as soon as they are available, but perhaps someone here can give me some insight as well.

JPEG's ?

Hi
Certainly something the camera have to be sent in for.

Try this:
Zoom in twice on a picture. If it apear then, it is a fault with the small in-RAW Jpeg.
Try also to view these images in SPP.

I often get the small Jpegs screwed up, when shooting fast. A band from one picture is saved on top of the previous picture, if this is still in the buffer.

kind regards
Øyvind

Hy Øyvind.

Thanks for your responce.

I've tried taking some pictures in different modes and different quality combinations. Even reviewed on the pc, half the picture is just missing.

I tried taking some shots with flash as well, but the part of the image that is displayed correctly was not lit. My theory is that the the shutter timing is off and that it fires just before or after the flash. Therefor I think that the mirror closes just a fraction too soon for some reason, thus ubstructing half of the picture.

If that's true, then perhaps there is a software solution for the issue. Does anyone know of a way to reset an sd14? I tried resetting it to standard settings through the menu, but that just applies to settings such as language and button sounds.

Reset

Hi

I doubt a reset would help on this, Pawel. I think you must send it in.

But you could try to remove the battery, and leave it out for a minute. That has cured some temporarily problems in the past.
Sigma rep has a way to reset, through the contacts inside the battery compartment (if I am not misinformed).
But I fear it is more serious than that.

kind regards
Øyvind

I found out what's going wrong.

I took the lens of and shot a picture with a one second shutter time. The shutter just didn't open up all the way, so half of the sensor never sees any light.

Well, it's been almost three months since the last post.
I sent the camera in and after a loooong wait it's finally back in my hands and fully operational again. :)
