Sigma 28-200 surgery

I have two Sigma 28-200 hyper zoom lenses. One works well, but it tumbled out of my camera bag onto gravel. It now has several large chips in the front element. The second has other issues with the electronics.

So I need to either swap electronics, or swap front elements. Does anyone have any tips, or links to info, before I start doing something stupid?
