Small sensors do deliver pretty images - Mushrooms

Hey there,

of course the quality can't compete with a full frame sensor with a proper macro lens, but the results of the small Olympus Tough TG-2 surprised me.

See for yourself:

What do you think?

#2 is a great shot because of the angle. In terms of quality, looks like a very good camera.

Thanks for your comment.

Yes, the angle makes it worth looking at. That's one thing I miss, a decent, let's say 25mm (better 20mm) 1:2 macro for FX...

Cheers
Mike

I used to get excellent results on my old Olympus E1 & E3 (Four-Thirds format) cameras with small sensors and a dedicated 50mm macro lens (equivalent to 100mm on a 35mm camera). One of the interesting things is that with full-frame digital sensors (ie the Nikon D700 12MP sensor vs the D800 36MP sensor) the higher the pixel count, the smaller the available depth of field at optimum resolution.

Lovely images. No.2 is a terrific shot. If I'd seen them on a walk I'm afraid I'd have reached for a frying pan before I'd think of taking their picture...
