The apparent space between them is compressed by the Nikon P950's telephoto lens.

"Hey buddy, what do you want to talk about?" :) IQ is impressive. Where is "98.1mm" in regard to the overall zoom range (i.e.,, 35mm eq.)? Sounds like a radio station.
 
98.1 mm is is equivalent 539.2 mm in 35mm terms..
The lens itself goes optically up to 365 mm which is equivalent to 2000 mm in 35 mm terms.
It also has excellent digital zoom which extends its reach to 4000 mm equivalent.
