Zeiss 35/2.8 question

Just a quick question. i bought this lense used and when the apperture setting is set to f4 the blades do not make a complete circle or geometric shape. The blades make a round shape with the corner of the blades can be seen, when stopped down to 5.6 the blades complete the circle and look normal. If anyone has this lense let me know if yours performs the same way.

i have the same anomaly. its ok. michael przewrocki btw: into my special aeropancam is built a 30 year-old planar 75mm 2.8/22- zeiss oberkochen cleaned it(free of charge-thanks to mr stühler)but could not do this perfectly due to a small spot of fungus inside glueded elements. i do not see any disadvantage even shooting against sun. lens has topquality already when stopped dowmn 1 stop to 4. keep in mind: rotating panoramic cameras with its slit and moving lens or/and film do only use a small vertical middle section of the lens. 3d-aeropanoramic project(worldpremiere) go to http://www.europanorama.tk

I did not understand what is the problem, so let me just explain what is aperture shape on my D35/2.8 MM. At any stop except for /2.8 the shape is a hexagon with rounded sides. The sides are more rounded at wider apertures and are almost straight at /16 and /22. I believe such behaviour is normal.

I bought this lens years ago for a pittance, because the mount was damaged. The poor battered thing stood forgotten in a corner of the dealers' used equipment stand for months, forgotten by all. This broke my heart so I decided to buy it

. I had the mount repaired for about 40 bucks, and I started using the lense. I had a similar problem with the diaphragm: it would show an asymetrical shape when stopping down. Furthermore, it was slow at stopping down, so often the shutter would fire before the iris was fully closed, hence a lot a over-exposed pictures. I had the lens sent for repair once again. It turned out there was some oil on the diaphragm blades. These were cleaned and re-lubricated, and the lense has been working flawlessly for over 8 years now, and it has become one of my favorites.
