35-70 = waaaay past infinity focus

I had mine adjusted by Malcolm Taylor as part of the front came loose but, because he is a Leica specialist and I had sent the lens on its own, he had to guess infinity focus. When I got it back, the focus was out, so I had to send it back, this time with a tatty 137MD, and Malcolm sorted it out.

The only other lens that I have that focuses beyond infinity is the 500mm f8 Mirotar and this is all part of the design to allow for different ambient temperatures.

Nick - does your 35-70 need major refocusing as you zoom in or out ? My 40-80, 28-85 do not. There are wild variations on this 35-70 - almost 90 degree turns

No, not when it's on a manual focus camera body, such as the RTS II. It's different when it's on the AX and it will need to be refocused after zooming as the original focus point is maintained. With the AX the lens is set to infinity (unless closer focusing is required and I use the extra close-focusing ability afforded by the focusing ring with fine adjustment given by the auto-focus), and the innards of the camera actually do the focusing of the film plane.
