You're right. The branch's position is bothersome (I couldn't convince the owl to shift position). So I went back today and amazingly the owl was still there but on a different branch. It was now raining so the tree leaves had been washed off the branches.

Note that the bird was in a tree at the end of someone's back yard and I was handholding my camera at maximum zoom (2000 mm equivalent) and standing in an alleyway about 75 feet away from the bird. First time I've seen an owl in the wild
