Batteries

I just received the Repair Extimate from Leica. They are recommendating that I have the meter converted to accept an alkaline battery. They don't say what voltage, but I assume it is 1.5 volt. I am wondering, do they install a voltae regulator when they do the conversion? Or do they just recalibrate the meter to a fresh alkaline cell? Since I have some mercury cells, and I have a CRIS adapter, I am reluctant to get the conversion done. Any comments, recommendations?

(For those of you who frequent both forums, I also posted this on the Leica Customer Forum also. I'm just trying to get the widest possible visibilty, as I have to make a decision very soon. Sorry for the cross post.)
