UK bluebells versus Virginia USA bluebells:
Interesting, thanks for posting a close-up. What we call bluebells locally in Virginia/Maryland area near Washington DC look very different from UK bluebells. I'll put a photo below this text. I must check out the Latin names for each kind to see if they are really related.
Or is this another case like the UK robin vs the American robin. The US robin is actually a thrush, not a 'true' robin!

Hi Sandy, don’t think my pic are true uk variety, Spanish have taken over in lots of places. Shame really cos our native ones are much nicer individually. Thanks very much for showing your variety, not seen anything like before.
 
Hmm, I learn something everyday.. thanks to Google. UK bluebells are Hyacinthoides non-scripta found from NW Spain to British Isles. Spanish variety are called H.hispanica.
US ones in Virginia are Mertensia virginica, native to eastern N America.
There are bluebells or possibly called bluebonnets in other parts of N. America too.
In Scotland they call Campanula rotundifolia ... bluebells.
