Contax 167MT

Hi
Hope I don't wear out all the privileges of the newbie by asking for help with my first post.

Long story, briefly told.

Acquired a very clean 167MT body which is delightful. It lives up to my www research completely - but both good and bad, it seems. The camera does not register the TLA 30 flash unit when fitted and switched on - nothing shows in the veiwfinder - no response in shutter speed settings within Av mode. It fires the flash, but it would appear TTL is not operating. Basic lack of communication from the camera it would seem.

The same flash unit works fine on my 139Q.

Still trying to get it investigated but was interested to know if this problem is common/known to other Contax users - help, comments and suggestions would all be welcomed.

Cheers
Mark

Hello,

I have recently seen that B&H have factory refurbished 167 MT bodies at only $349... Including a one-year warranty from Contax.

This is considerably cheaper than an Aria, so begs the question:

What is the advantage of the Aria?

Also, what justifies the much, much lower price than, say, an RX or ST?

It seems to me that this camera is "too cheap" to be true for what it is...

I hope to go and actually look at one in the next few days.

> I would like to know if they have other refurbished Contaxes, such as the 159, which is a great, reliable mechanical camera.

Hello,

The only other refurbished camera that I can see is the N1 for $899.

Also they have several MM-mount lenses.

Hello,

I stand corrected - they have an RTS III for $1,349! An amazing price if you ask me for this camera.

Its quite simple , the 167 is an older model which is no longer made any more - the Aria is still , officially at least , a current model . I've had my 167 since about 1989 [and still going strong] , it wasnt released much before that...... Steve

i also had a 167mt and liked the camera itselves
but could never bring it to work with the flash
(tla 280)!

last month i found a RTS 3 for 1800 USD and got
200 $ back for the 167mt-12 years old!

the flash problens are solved!

Hi all,

has anybody tried NiMh rechargebles with the 167MT? I´ve seen some Batteryholder for AA batteries, but at 100Euro on Ebay they're much too expansive IMHO.

TIA

Volker

Agreed the battery holder isnt that cheap generally , but aside from the more desirable AA size batteries , the holder significantly changes and improves the feel and handling of the camera [ especially in portarit format I personally think]- I would not be without it on mine...... Steve

Actually neither AAA directly in the Body nor AA via the P5 are an issue.= They all work fine! I prefer NiMH over NiCd. Actually even RAM Cells do = work fine, if you charge the after every 1-2 Rolls (nice if you only shoo= t occasionally)
