Contax FX1-screen

The thing I still don't get is why Contax's engineers haven't thought of putting the AF markers on the focusing screens itself* instead of on the bottom of (or in) the camera's prism...this way the split centre of the FX-1 would always show perfect consistency (or at least appear to have) with the centre AF marker (if latter needed at all in the FX-1!) and everyone would have been happy!

Back to the drawing table…?

* As they did with the black grid on the FX-3

I'd like to add my 2c that I've just finished installing FX-1. Everything went smoothly and flawlessly. The split circle is ever so slightly crooked to one side (like a 0.2~3mm or so), but the split is dead-on with my AF.

The finder has become brighter too, and I like FX-1 much better than FX-3 (whatever the one comes with the body). Unfortunately there is one tiny speck of dust near the split, but I'll live with it for now.

Now off to shoot some more pictures...

My prints came back today and I'm very pleased with the result. Everything is sharply in focus exactly where I wanted and in the way I intended!

I tried both my MS100/2.8 and VS28-80/3.5-5.6, and they were both perfectly in focus with the split. My AF was always in perfect agreement also.

Maybe I was lucky that everything went as smoothly as it did, but I strongly recommend to any N1 user to try FX-1.

It would have been nice to have a diagonal split though...now that's greed!
