White Balance - do you guys & girls set white balance for each type of light using the one touch preset, use the auto setting or the degrees K settings?

If you are taking a reflected light reading, I've had good results with white A4 typing paper, but it's a hassle to carry round. Anyone got any other ideas?

Andy, do not get paranoid about it. White balance defaults to 5500K in low light conditions (like 1/15 sec at f/2.8), that's where you might want to use presets or one touch if the lighting is really tough. By tough I mean something like window plus tungsten plus fluorescent at the same time and about the same intensity.

What is really interesting, I wrote Contax about my disaster a week ago, and nobody answered as of yet. I love these guys.

IF they write you back...ask them if they're going to respond to my 4 emails and two phone messages from last fall...

I'm starting to waiver on my dedication to Contax...

I hate saying that..

Not that I am a defender of poor service Irakly, but it is the Holiday, and maybe they are short staffed right now. My company is closed until Jan. 2, and many people take the week before the New Year off, even if their company is open for business.

A couple of notes for ND owners:

Samy's Camera in California has 512Meg, 25X CF cards for $199. They are"Transend
Brand, but seem to work just fine in the ND. What I can't tell is if the 25X is helping with speeding up the buffer load or not. They certainly download like a rocket in my new Lexar Firewire card reader. I'll report in when I have more experience with these cards in the ND.

Another observation that I can't quite figure out. This camera is rated at 6 meg. but it seems the results are better than that when shot correctly.
I am doing some severe cropping and the images hold up incredibly well. (???).

Marc, that's what I noticed too. When you shoot in TIFF mode, the image is so smooth (160ISO and lower) and lenses are so sharp that you can blow it up almost indefinitely. Well... Not indefinitely, but...
BTW, I am TOTALLY free after about 3 pm tomorrow. Let's do late lunch or something

My greatest difficulty with the ND is getting good skin tones. Are there any adjustments I could make to help this situation, or is there nothing that can be done?

John

John, this is new. One can blame this camera for a lot of things, but skin tones is not one of them. What white balance option do you use?
