CONTAX to CANON eos adapter ring

Hi David,

I bought the M42-EOS-Adaptor (hama) 2nd hand (like new) for 22 Euro. If you have a look at ebay the is Foto Walser selling those - they normally go for 23-30 Euros. I'm looking for a Y/C-EOS-Adaptor myself and I'm using the M42-lens-version in the meantime.... Paul

> Hi Paul,

Forgive my ignorance, is the M42-EOS Adaptor similar to the C/Y - EOS fit or are they totally different animals. Basically at times i would like to use my CZ 50mm 1.4 and 85mm f1.4 on an eos100 or eos3. Would ether of your suggestions work.

Regards

David

Hi David,

they should work the same - but they are not equal and the price is different. The M42-EOS-adaptor is quite cheap compared to the C/Y-EOS-adaptor (which I am searching myself). M42-adaptors are produced by several big producers of photo-accessory but not the C/Y-EOS-adaptor. It should be used the same : AV-mode and set manually f-stop to 1.0. This works for me with my old EOS600 (quite robust and fast motordrive !) and the mentioned Zeiss-Jena-lenses (of course you have to set the lenses to non-automatic.

Good luck with your search for C/Y-adaptor!

Hello, Paul,

I see that your two EOS bodies are from the early 1990s (http://www.eos-magazine.com/System_EOSmodels.html#anchor114131). Do they feature the in-focus confirmation l& inside the viewfinder? If so, does it alight when you are using your M42-adapters and achieve focus? I need to ask this also of somone who uses the Zoerk or similar adapter. I suppose the answer is no, but I have not seen the question posed or answered elsewhere.

I just encountered the following information at the page

http://www.nemeng.com/leica/002f.shtml

which seems relevant. Before buying myself a Zoerk or similar adaptor, I am trying to anticipate just how useful my EOS + Contax lens setup could be. Besides visualizations, I may shoot a roll with my first camera, an Exa, which necessitates focusing wide open, stopping-down, and then depressing the shutter button.

Best wishes,
Leon

Michael, Scusilo prego!

This thread pertains to the efficacy of using a mount adapter for fitting a manual focus (and nonelectronic) lens on an electronic body, such as an EOS body. If you review the entire thread, via the Contaxinfo Web site, I hope that all of my comments fit better for you. As are other Contaxians, I am trying to figure out the difficulties, if any, prior to purchasing such an adaptor. I referred to practicing with an Exa as a way of anticipating the efficiency of focusing, stopping-down, and then depressing the shutter, an "old-fashioned" way with which I am currently unaccustomed.

Best wishes, Leon
