Contax TVSD vs. Sony V1

Hi Ken, I urge you to not be to quick to dump the TVSD. I just ran a test of the Canon S50, and the TVSD using higher ISOs. The noise at ISO 400, which is the top speed for both cameras, is virtually identical. The only difference between the two that I can see is the Contax image appears sharper...which was demonstrated in the "Coffee Bean" test.
In fact, Irakly thinks the sensors in both cameras are made by the same manufacturer.

I think perhaps a P&S style is not for you and you require a SLR with a bigger sensor and faster lenses ( like a Canon 10D and f/1.4 glass.

You can't expect THAT much out of a little P&S, or why would anyone pay $7,500. for a Canon 1Ds?

I don't know, but the TVSD photo you did was very crisp and clean IMO. (neat photo,BTW). Frankly, I never set these digitals beyond ISO 200 unless it is absolutely necessary to get the shot.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for your comments. If you don't mind, would you please kindly email me at ken@kiddieland.com.hk the test you ran at higher ISO's (like 400) on the S50 and TVSD. I would prefer to have larger sized files to compare the noise level of both.

The "Coffee Bean" test was convincing but at lower ISO. As a matter of fact it was this test that led me to buy the TVSD. On the other hand, at higher ISO I am having more disappointing results with my TVSD. I personally love my 10D except for its limited exposure latitudes. But a performing little P&S would always be nice especially when I have a 8-month old little baby whom I would like to take pictures of readily everywhere we go.

I have not tried the S50 but if at higher ISO situations performance is similar, then I think I would stick with the TVSD. Don't worry if you don't have the time to get me the files, but the comparison would be very helpful for me to decide. Thanks so much.

Ken
