Contax user from Spain

Hello. I live in Barcelona and use a Sony A7RII and a Sony A7MII with a bunch of vintage lenses. I used (and keep) Olympus lenses in the 80s and 90s, from a 21 2,0 to a 300 4,5 and now I use a mix of Leica R and Contax CY lenses: Leica Summicron 50R, Elmarit 35R and Contax: Distagon 28 2,8 MMJ, Tessar 45 MMJ, Makro-Planar 60 AEJ, Planar 85 1,4 MMJ, Sonnar 135 2,8 MMJ and Vario-Sonnar 35-70 3,4 MMJ. Also have and sometimes use several Nikon F lenses, particularly 24, 28 and 35 wide angles, but my love goes to the Zeiss Contax CY lenses.

Hello Alex. You have a great selection of legacy lenses!

You are right though - the Zeiss C/Y lenses have something special about their rendering of an image. I use them on Contax & Yashica bodies but also with digital systems such as Fuji GFX 50S, Canon EOS 6D and Olympus E-M1 MkIII.

If you get the chance, try out the Zeiss 100 f2 or even the f3.5 - if there was one zoom lens I'd suggest you go for, it's the 70-210 f3.5 Vario Sonnar - quite simply the best ever lens of that type - and its Macro is amazing.

Did you know that Yashica also produced some legendary lenses - some of which actually are better than Zeiss! Their ML 28-50 and ML 35-70 f3.5 are stunning; the ML (only the ML) 500mm f8 mirror is rightly judged to be the best 500 f8 ever made and is way better than the Zeiss Mirotar version. I am lucky to have the finest 500mm mirror lens ever made - the Contax Zeiss 500 f4.5 Mirotar. I've attached a piccie; as you can see, it dwarfs the Olympus E-M1 III. You get a free hernia with every lens...
