You wouldn't expect flamingos in Germany but there is a breeding colony of several different subspecies right on the Dutch border at the Zwillbrocker Venn. Due to the drought they had a horrible time last year since the island in the middle of a marsh where they breed became accessible to foxes and many chicks didn't make it. This year is much better and with about 50 pairs breeding things are looking good.
