D70 vs D100

If you are considering the D100, better grab it fast. It is expected that its replacement will be announced around the time of the PMA show next month. Since the new camera will probably be a much more capable camera - at roughly the same price - the D100 will disappear quickly from the shelves.

Larry, in this case, doesn't it make sences to wait a while for the new model, it will be either to decide to have the old stock of D100, and have a great price reduction because of the new model, or have the new model and pay for a similar price!

Mark, I must say some of your colors have a bit more spunk....not a LOT more...but I would say its noticable... Sharpness seems to be up a tad from what I am used too as well. http://www.romansphotos.com

I too am buying a DSLR around april 15th. I think that while the 5700 comes with some reasonably sharp lens for a pro-sumer digital camera...I'm gonna be nicely supprised by the quality of a reasonable lenses on the new body....cant wait to find out.

Let me know what you find!!

Well, I am VERY pleased that my hunch was right and they didnt create another 300D when they put the D70 out. They gave me my wish list and more.

They folowsd the intelligent path......and are giving the public a camera that is competition for the 10D....at a price that is competitive with the 300D.....

That my fiends....is good marketing.

I think the wait is worth it.

NOW......if they have their marketing stuff together......They will put this out....ON TIME.

This aint the type of market to screw around in....Timing is everything.....and they missed the mark with 300D...lets see if can introduce this in March like they say.

Cause if they do (At least by mid april).....they have my $1000.00

So according to what I read my SB-80DX is NOT fully compatable with the new D70? Am I right?
I purchased it over other modles in hopes os using it on a digital SLR some day. :-(

Except for build quality (based on weight, which is even less than digital rebel), and mirror instead of prism, the D70 looks BETTER than the D100. The focusing system is the same, the flash compatibility is much better-Sunil, the SB-80DX is not compatible with their new i-TTL system but it will do regular TTL flashes. Don't worry. The flash sync is much faster as well. Best of all they took the WB and ISO controls off of the knob to a much faster pushbutton system which always drives me crazy with the D100. Having two wheels to be able to control aperture and shutter speed at the same time gives it a big edge over the Canon.

I'm surprized that this thread has been so quiet... with the D70 now released in some parts of the world, hopefully it will be in Canada within the week!

I have put a deposit locally here for my D70. Found a shop where I am the first in line, and they ordered them before the Nikon rep knew they were available for order. So should be within the next week. Then I will be in DSLR heaven. I have been aticipating this camera for quite a while. I am glad it has a feature set was not dummed down from the D100.

I used my friends 300D rebel this week, and I must say, my hunches are correct....there is a HUGE diffrence between using an SLR style camera to my current 5700. While the 5700 has every feature in the world, and is quite capable....the DSLR is sooooo much easier to use and dosn't get in the way of taking the picture with hunting focus....or buffer wait time...or having to use the zoom putton to slowly frame the shot the way you want it.....and seeing DOF realtime is a joy.

At times people have tried to convince me that the diffrence between the 5700 and a DSLR shouldnt be much of a diffrence...

Well...there is a monster diffrence to me....and I am glad I am getting the D70. Already have my 5700 kit presold.....and will hand it over when I get my D70....that will put me 1/2 the way to my Sigma 100-300 f/4 lens (cant afford Nikons upper end glass just yet) and a good 105mm Macro is on the short horizon as well. I think the kit lens is the best choice for the short range...and am gitting it that way.

Cant wait to gt shooting....might plan a trip to a major park soon to put it through its paces.

Got my new lowerpo Rover AW II camerabag....so I am ready.

@ all

Today I have seen the D70 on the German computer exhibition (Cebit2004) and I have to recognise that it is much smaller than expected. It is like a toy in my "small" hands. Even when I compare this body to the D100 - it is more fragile than I was thinking about. Maybe it has some nice features - but IMHO it is really a small and light "D100" for a better price. (not to mention the D2 series). So all the users who purchased a D100 should not be afraid to spent to much.

kind regards from Germany
