FYI

there are rumours that Leica will present the digital M and some new wideangles at PMA (February 2006). These are only rumours. And presenting does not mean "delivering" or to buy at the dealer.

Haas anybody more details on this?

Today, I read an announcement from DPR about a hint of a Leica M7 digital from the PMA show.

I tried to find the picture and clip a second time, but was unable to.

Gilbert: I was at the PMA. The representatives at the Leica booth told me that the new digital M will be unveiled at Photokina. In addition, there is information about the new digital M in the latest LFI. I believe that there will indeed be a new wide angle lens specifically meant for the new digitial M. I also suspect the camera will be priced around the price that the DMR was originally offered at. You should note that there was a "new" Panasonic SLR digital camera displayed, and that this camera will be using a new Leica lens developed for the "4/3" sensors of Panasonic ( and Olympus??? )cameras.

Gentlemen:

Thank you.

I saw those images and stories but for some reason I could not find the photo that Albert posted when I wrote my post.

I also read that Leica, Panasonic and Olympus have agreed to share technology in response to Sony, Minolta-Konica.

Interesting times.

Gilbert

Hi Gilbert,

"I also read that Leica, Panasonic and Olympus have agreed to share technology in response to Sony, Minolta-Konica."

Could you tell me where you read about this ?

Joseph

Hello Joseph: There is in-depth information about the Panasonic-Olympus cooperation at dpreview.com. As you now know Leica has built a new lens to take advantage of the "4/3" system that the "P-O" cooperation is building upon, and such lens is to be used on the Panasonic SLR which was also just annnounced. Hence, it seems reasonable to conclude that there is an exchange of information between all three companies. Indeed, one would certainly expect to see additional Leica lenses for the 4/3 system. I have not been able to ascertain the cost of the new Panasonic SLR with the Leica lens.

Best wishes,

Elliot
