Digital now or rather wait

As long as we're talking about scanners... I'm an amateur - and not an advanced one - with an OM2 with the 50 mm 1.4 lens, as well as an off-brand wide angle and zoom. I love the OM2, thouugh I'd like to get some better lenses. I understand that digital is the way of the future, but when I see how quickly digital cameras become obsolete the idea of investing in an E1 is a bit scary. A photographer friend said that she shoots in film and then scans in the negatives - and she thinks the results are better than shooting purely in digital. What's your advice? Go for the E1, or buy a scanner and scoop up bargains in used Zuiko lenses?
