Feedback on E 1 wanted

Terry

I have used and will probably continue to use CS Raw to edit orf's. I just went through a bunch of my shots taken with the E1. WB setting so far has been auto on the E1 and the raw convertor seems to correctly interpret the setting when set as "As Shot" I've seen ranges from 4600 to 5600 on the shots I've taken.

I would like to see studio work as it should let me easily vary mistakes in raw settings like using cm1 for people shots and I like their browser better than PS's.

Another note on Adobe it appears that if I use their browser on Nefs instead of view and then launch from there into CSraw the iso setting gets imbedded in the proper exif field.

> Software is always a work in progress. Having shot Nikon for many years and digital for the last 7 I watched Nikon Capture evolve and refine itself. I am sure that Olympus' program will do the same just as the cameras will.

I honestly have just started with the E-1 system and have held on to my Nikon system. I think the next version - not upgrade - will handle all of the headaches that exist right now.

Elliot,

I have watched the same process with Kodak Photo Desk and agree totally with your comments. I simply cannot use Studio at home as I have timed action (it dosen't seem to matter what it is) at 7 seconds. In a production environment this would be totally uncceptable.

Phil, I generally work with presets, I'm a flash kind of guy, and warm or cool depending on ambient. It seems to be pretty consistently coming up at about 2/3 of a step below what I set. I haven't checked this accross different computers as yet, so it may be just mine.

Aside from these problems, I work in education and we have Nikon, Kodak and Olympus cameras in our equipment library so we have settled on using CS to simplify software issues. A recently discovered feature, the file edit history in the EXIF data, has made this even more useful as we have problems with plagarism from time to time.

> Hi Folks: After 35 years of shooting nothing but Nikon Cameras, a close friend, Patrick dared me to pick up the E-1 and give it a run for its money.

All I can say is I have never seen images render this well. The quality of the colors, and the sharpness of the optics astound me.

I also worked for Nikon for 33 years so this comes as an even more traumatic experience. I still have my Nikon gear which I have kept up to date with each new digital generation, but I am leaning more and more to the image quality of the E-1.

Every thing about the system yells let's go take pictures.

Now with all that said, I hope the next generation has better low light focus. But I can live with that for now.

Hi Group

I’m John Foster, a newcomer to this group, but not to Olympus. I use, collect and write about Olympus cameras. I arrive here like most of you
– from OM, Pen and before.

Currently I use a mix of OM 35mm and Olympus CX0X0 cameras, the most recent being the impressive C5050. I am actively considering moving to E1. However, listening to the Internet whispers about the new E3 and the consumer version E series I’m on that cusp of decision making – move now as E1 prices fall a little further or wait and see what the new offerings are like?

I have mixed views on the MP race and think that 5MP is OK for the vast majority of stuff but can see that higher MP’s may result in better image rendition for many reasons. So my questions to those who currently own and use E1 are simply:

Knowing what you know now about the E1 would you make the same decision to buy it (in real time) tomorrow?

Give me a dispassionate appraisal of its strengths and weaknesses.

If you were advising the Olympus design team on a second version E1 what would be the two things you would insist they add/change/alter/adapt/delete?

That’s it. Thanks for your time and I look forward to your responses.

John.
