Firmware update for CP990

Hi Forum,
Ive just bought a S/H Coolpix 990, very happy with it, but as a compulsive "fiddler", I visited the Nikon website & found a firmware update from V1.0 to 1.1. I,m quite computer literate & have done similar upgrades to other equipment (freeview adaptors etc.). I know its possible that an update can fail & leave a camera with no op. system. Has any other user done this update ? Any problems ?.

Replies appreciated

Peter

Hi Jim,
did the firmware upgrade tonight, worked OK!.
I have only had the 990 for about a week but noticed that autofocus seemed a bit slow & sometimes fuzzy at infinity. Seems better now. I bought the 990 second hand,(very cheap) with faulty autofocus & zoom. Turned out to be fairly easy to strip & repair the lens assembly, with the help of diagrams found on the net. Anyway I,m now a very happy Nikon owner!
Any other user care to comment on this upgrade?

Thanks for your encouragement
Peter

Pete - Camera works fine, it did not become a doorstop. As to whether or not I needed to do the upgrade, that's debatable. Only caution again is to follow directions explicitly.

I've noticed one perhaps "peculiarity" with some/many Coolpix cmaeras. When zoomed to max telephoto and under less than bright light, they tend to hunt for focus and often do a crappy job. With either bright light or less than long telephoto-zoom under dimmer light, they do a bang up job in the focus department. My 2 cents ... just seems to be a trait of the beasts.
Happy photos
