I have a Canon system, and was wondering if it was possible to use the Canon 550EX flashgun with it. I realise that it would not have auto functions, but I would use the guide number. It would be rarely used (hence the reluctance to buy a proper unit), but it would be handy for an occasion when it would be handy!

The thing is, I would hate to fry the electronics of the Leica!
 
The voltage is fine but you could only fire it in full manual mode on the 550EX. And the 550EX may freeze each time, you can reset it by turning it on or off.

Nikon flashes are better in that they usually have an 'A' mode that you can set the flash to.
