G2 Af problems

Thanks.

Some time ago I've read that there was a problem with the 90mm Sonnar but it was usually solved by Contax. The camera and the lens were sent to Contax and it made calibration. At present it seems there is no solution.

I have some sharp or almost sharp photos made with the Sonnar - most of them made at f/4 and f/5.6. So, the lens is better than nothing but it isn't what I expected of it.

It's a blistering sharp lens! OK, not taken on a G film but evidence of rendition

Both shot on a Panasonic GF1 and Contax G 90mm wide open (manual focusing!)

Contax G2 autofocus problems

Dear friend,

I could not accept the fact that i wouldn't be able to use my 90mm zeiss lense so i did a research about that. I talked to Contax g2 owners who assured me that this is not a normal behaviour and should send my camera for repair. I ended up talking with a zapanese fellow who also owns a contax g2 and had similar problems. He told me that he sent his camera to kyocera japan for repair and now works perfectly. The only thing they had to do was to recalibrate the auto focus. I emailed to kyocera japan about my camera and they told me that i didn't have to send it over to japan for repair (i leave in Greece), i could send it to Germany instead (tritec gmbh) where they are authorised to repair contax cameras. I sent it there and they told me that my camera indeed has a problem which is repairable...I can send you all the information if you like...
