Hello All...

I've just relocated to Canada from London UK , I joined this forum back in 2011 and it seems I have yet to say hello. So, Hello All, I'm totally digital now using Phase One backs and cameras working mostly in Advertising. I do miss my old film days when there was more mystery about crafting an image on an 8x10 View Camera, but the freedom of the digital world just can't be denied!

Hi jnsteele,

thanks for your introduction! :z04_whip2_1:

So we have now someone with a Phase One back. Hope you can show some images made with it here in the forum!

The Phase One back produces images over 200mbs, so best to just visit studiosteele.com to view samples.
It is a great system, but if I had to be honest, I think they have rushed too many of their cameras and backs to market as myself and others have run into more reliability issues since the introduction of the Phase One branded cameras and the IQ back systems. The older P systems were rock solid.

I do think competition is high nowadays in the MF market. The market is getting smaller and competition is getting bigger after the slow down a few years ago. Hasselblad started to be serious again and Fuji entered the market.

Do you use your Pase One also for not so demanding private shots?

The Phase One is a studio camera, I use a nikon for outdoors and holiday snaps, but my passion is in the studio where I decide and control the composition, lighting and post production. I use Broncolor as it is a flexible and reliable source of light.
I used Hasselblad cameras previously but around the 2000's they also dropped the ball in reliability and lost a huge share of the market to Phase One. Their software Phocus is still a dog! The newer Blads have improved a lot in the last few years but I'll wait and see where they are headed, since their ownership seems change with the seasons...
