Just released Nikon D2X

Nice Pictures Boris, It seems we have similar interests. For those that would like to see a s&le of Nikon cameras pictures, untouched by Photoshop, straight out of the camera, click on the link to view them. The D2H needs to be in color mode II (RGB) for a wider tonal range and latitude.

P.S. The artsy Ferrari GTO was the only image touched in Photoshop. Logo added, colors were made slightly more vibrant, and enlarged to 9000 pixels wide for printing to 30 inch wide poster.

Nice shots Roger. Good eye, nice use of frame space. Definitely a bunch of keepers there!

And your skys are very deserving of the you and your cameras attention.

I have some OK shots here in my gallery as well.

and for innocent, I rarely spend more than 15-20 min with my D70 shots, and now with the new D2H....usually a little sharpening action I have is all they need.

Oh....and for innocent. Here is my shot brightened up a bit (about 15 seconds with levels)....again....not ment to be a decent photograph....just an ex&le of a sky exposure that isn't blown with the foreground decently exposed.

Nice shots Paul!! Thanks for showing your collection to us.

Hopefully the D2X will be everything the D2H is and more.

Good Job Paul. Is that Lakeland in the airshow series?

I feel the point has been adequately made by all whom participated in the gallery fest, that it's not the gear, yet the photographer that makes the image. There are an infinite amount of variables at work when an image is made, to say the gear is no good, to me is nothing short of full denial of ones' own short comings.

I truly hope that this is THE last post on this matter. May we move on please?

I'll be attending PMA this coming Tuesday. Does any one else plan to be there that day?

Well, I would not call myself an expert - I am much more of a people photographer than a landscape shooter.

It does take a bit of time and care to put together a web portfolio, and I have just done so. I took the bait and used your challenge to put together the first installment of an ambitious portfolio of my part of the world.

I apologize that I don't have a fancy D2H like you have, so I did the best I could with my CP990 and CP5000. None the less, I believe you will agree that both do a fine job with land and sky. It is a portrait of the beloved skies of my homeland in their widely and sometimes wildly varying moods. This one is for you. Now I challenge you to match it with film.

When I first purchased the CP5k, I had the opportunity to spend a few days in the desert southwest of the USA. I did a portfolio of it at that time - not being particulary focused upon sky and terrain. However, it shows a brief glimpse of a very different world from the one I now inhabit.

While these cameras and my latest addition, a CP8400 are superb for "street" and shooting under the worst of conditions, they can also do a pretty credible job when conditions are nearer to perfect.

A true aviation enthusiast.... Yes it is lakeland. I go there every year to catch up with new technology. I'm building a canard airplane, and its a great place to hang around people who love airplanes. Maybe I'll meet you there some day.

Thanks for your kind words.

Paul

Paul, lol, yes I guess you could say that I'm an aviation enthusiast. Additionally I'm a Commercial Pilot and CFI CFII and MEI . I split my time between the two things I'm passionate about. It took me a number of years to get it to that point, but I'm managing the two together for pay. So in other words, when I get tired of listening to whiney pilots, I can plug in and listen to whiney, overly critical, photog wannabees.

Ok, I apologize for that last jab, but I sat silent while everyone else got it off their chests.

Larry I really like the Aurora shot. Did you ever print that one 16X20 or so? If so, how'd it look?

Thanks everyone that took my bait. Most of Larry's shots among others are simply extraordinary. Good work gentlemen. If nothing had been achieved in this episode, at least, I have managed to direct the forum towards discussing images other than cameras. But I'll add that the better shots are not necessarily the norm with digital capture. The norm are such images as the bird-can't remember whose it was, and there are also such ex&les in Larry's work where the sky is totally bland.

The scanned image thing by Roger, hmm, you got me on that one, hard to tell. At times you simply can't tell the difference between a scanned image from digital and this is the more reason to resist any major move towards digital with all its attendant costs- initial capital outlay.

You can't actually fight an establishment with one bullet alone. However, Nikon can now rest, in that the pool of supporters in this forum are geared to guaranteeing its financial success.

Having said all the above, the question remains about the performance of digital RAW capture in terms of latitude and dynamic range. Any suggestion?
