Unfortunately, the pair that nest in my yard every season moved on this year, but here's one from last year of one of my favorite little guys, whom we named Busy.

A very dignified look. Studious. Like a cartoon owl with glasses and an English/British accent. Looks like a young bird. How tall do you think he/she is? A foot, maybe, at the most? We have a heron who lives around here (near our home, somewhere) -- so beautiful and graceful in flight and even just standing. I haven't tried to take a picture of him/her (lately)... mainly because I do not have enough patience for birding! Ships, trains and airplanes are easy.... there they are... mostly stationary or slow-moving... shoot 'em.

I'm not even sure if it's male or female - juveniles are tricky. We called him Busy because he was the first to do everything and just never stopped moving. The chicks were a little over a foot tall when they fledged.
