Leica M3

Jim,
Efke KB-25 is very close to the Adox KB-14. It is basically the same but improved over the years. The Adox Company moved to Croatia after the war and has continued to manufacture film right alond under the Efke name. If you are interested in buying the film and the KB-50 and the KB-100 check out www.fotoimex.de. They sell in units of ten. I'm in the US and delivery was in seven working days. Give them a look.

Dear Ebenezer,

I tried the link you suggested www.fotoimex.de a number of times without success. Would you mind checking and reposting please.

As a matter of interest I find the Maco 25 in Neofin Blue gives similar results to Adox 17.

Sincerely,

Justin

Hi,

I recently bough a Gossen Digisix lightmeter (reccomended by Justin--Thanks!) The light meter is great! On the dial, I see negative numbers that I can twist to which I'm assuming I use when the light is very low. However, it seems that I can't get my digital readout display a negative number to turn to. When I put it in a dark place, it just reads "Eu" which means too dark...

Thanks,

Daniel

Echoing Andy Rothman's views on doing everything myself.
I have never owned a TTL Leica - and don't want to. I have handled and played with an M6 and didn't even like the feel of it. It felt like an M4-P I once owned and HATED because it felt awful. I have to make the comparison with the M2 I have owned since 1982....there's a difference I can't define. The M2, along with the M3's and M4's (and frankly, even an M4-2) I have owned over the years, just feels rock solid, heavy and utterly comfortable. I know it hasn't got the 28mm field of view and TTL, or even convenient flash sync - but that and the 3 and 4 are the dog's bollocks as some might say in the UK. I find I make better pictures because of the hand meter. I find I take more time over my considered images and the care produces results. But that doesn't mean I can't guestimate for grab-shots as well. And I can guestimate quicker than I can lift an M5 or M6 to my eye and turn the shutter dial or aperture ring to please the needle or the LEDs.
Alongside my Leica, and for lenses of 135mm and beyond I use a Nikon FA. But I use it on manual. Idiot I might be but the Leica in the bag inspires that.

I heard through the grape vine, (the net) that Leica is going to bring out a special editon M3 next year. Can any one confirm this. I'm thinking about getting a M6, but if a M3 is going to be brought out next year, I'll wait.

Hello;
This is my first posting. Nice site.
Well I am in a quandry about an M3 with a DR Summicron and a 135 F4 Elmar for $2000 US (It has some other little goodies that come with it). It is in beautifull condition - the only defects I can tell would be a slightly sticky aperture on the 135 and slight yellowing of the finder. Everything is a little stiff but I think it just needs a little love! Is it this or just get an M6 in good condition. Problem is 35mm is one of my favorite focal lengths. Any Thoughts?

Joseph,

there are a lot of people on the net now discussing that item and guessing what will be announced or released at the PMA in Las Vegas or after. Most seem to converge about some kind of M3-M6 mix, with M3 look and finder and M6 ttl meter (not for flash). Personally, I decided not to wait and grabbed one of the last "regular" (no commemorative "very last batch" edition) M6TTL available in my country. This because I know the M6TTL and like its features, and I do not want to risk not to like the next mechanical M and then not be able to purchase a new M6TTL any more.
Other guesses I heard are about a new mechanical SLR.

I did the same thing, buying an M6TTL while I could still get one for the same reason as you. I would have rather waited until the print orders coming in between now and April are paid, but didn't want to miss out on this camera either.
