Yes, a limpkin (Aramus guarauna). There are four subspecies with slightly different plumages and sizes from different parts of their range, this one being a pictus variety. They are most unusual birds, a South and Central American species that has been pushing its range northwards into the Gulf Coast and Florida. In the last two years we've seen a few here on the South Carolina coast. Their diet consists exclusively of freshwater snails and mussels. Their call is a very strange and spooky scream. Once you hear it you won't forget it!
