New Pacific Image scanner

Pacific Image just released new scanner on the market - PRIME-FILM 7250-PRO 3 that is available at Adorama and B&H Photo right now. Specs on paper look great, price is under $500 after rebate, which makes me wonder if it's any good at all. Would be interesting to hear from the first users

Pacific Image has been around for quite a while, they're the OEM manufacturer for Braun's scanners.

As far as Microtek M1 goes - I'm personally not interested in this type of thing. I prefer the idea of dedicated film scanner. Speaking of which, their 4000 ArtixScan 4000 model hasn't been updated in a long time and they're running rebates on it for quite a while, which I suspect means they don't sell too well.

I think we only have the Braun Multimag Slidescan 4000 over here which is a sort of slide projector which scans.

The reason I am interested in the new types of flat bed scanners such as the Epson V750 for film scanning is because they do medium format at far lower cost than a dedicated film scanner and the results seems to be pretty good from what I have read.

I have a very good 35mm film scanner already in the Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 and I don't really want to scrap that, nor to spend over £2000 on the Nikon Coolscan 9000 so unfortunately I will have to compromise.

The new M1 looks as though it might achieve what the Epson V750 does but without the need for the optional fluid mounting which would be a plus. I haven't found any reviews for it yet though.

The M1 is not going to be out until June, so in all likelihood you won't see any reviews until August (if at all).

Thanks Mike,

It looks like I shall just have to be patient

I'm full of hope that Amateur Photographer will test it. They did a comprehensive test of the V750 and found in favour.

Cheers,
