Nikon 200mm Micro Nikkor on Leica CL

I have a history of using Micro Nikkors from my medical photography days. The 200 is a big well balanced lens on the CL. Adapting with a Nikon F mount to Leica M adapter then using Leica M to L (T) adapter so you can use the top wheels on the CL for magnification.

I worked for eye surgeons, I mostly used the 200 Micro Nikkor on either an F3HP or an FE, I usually used them with a flash mostly a Metz 45 CT1 mounted on the lens tripod bracket. With the 200 the eye would fill the frame. I was trusted to get in fairly close by the surgeons and OR staff.

I had a 105 Micro Nikkor and another clinic I used a 120 Medical Nikkor but found it restrictive, just ring lighting, we preferred the 105 with a rotating small flash mounted on it. The 200 I have used is an f4. Have to admit I didn't know there was a 200 with the integral ring light. As I said ring lights have their pluses and minuses. The 200 f4 Micro Nikkor is one of the best handling lenses around, buttery smooth internal focusing.

That makes more sense for sure. I use a ring flash for most macro shots at higher ratios. Always handy to get the DOF I'm after.

Nice! I've still got my 200/4 MF Micro Nikkor that I bought new in 1980. Here it is mounted on my Nikon 1 V3 via the FT1 adapter.

A quick shot of one of my wife's potted plants outside the front door using a Nikon 1 J5. Not an easy focal length to get pointed correctly with the 2.7x crop factor of the J5. I stopped down to f/8 to help a bit with the DOF, but that wasn't enough.
