Olympus booth at the Photokina 2016

Also on Tuesday, I visited the Olympus booth. They showed really nice images dispaying on the walls. Everywhere was advertisement for the announced EM1 MkII. But you could not get it in your hands just like that and I had no time anymore for a direct meeting behind the curtain...

What they told me is that AF speed shall be significantly improved. But without seeing it with my own eyes, I would be caustios with these statements.

What you could easily see is that Olympus is very smart in marketing its different products. IMHO they are the most advanced if it comes to sell similar products in different design for different target groups. I like that a lot, since you can really choose what you like teh most. Image quality is more or less the same with all new models for the mainstream photography and normal print size.

I am sure that other brands will follow this route and adapt their products in the futuire even more to "fit" the design taste for each worthwile target group. At this Photokina you could see, that the product "camera" as a "tool only" is over.

A few pics as always:

Wow! That is a very impressive spec for a small form factor camera! And I love that new zoom - what a dilemma: Fuji medium format digital or the E-M1 MkII + 12-100 lens... It's probably an academic matter as I doubt I can afford either unless I sell my Zeiss 600 f4 and 1.2 Planars...:(

Yes, but also Olympus is increasing the prices: 2.000.- for the new model. I am not sure whether I would be willing to pay that price for a m4/3rd body...

Olympus always starts with a high price and then after about 3 months you can find prices dropping as the market adjusts to reality... I suppose it makes commercial sense from their perspective as they have a dedicated following and many of them can't wait to be among the first to get the latest model. Personally, I like to wait for the prices to drop and at least 1 firmware upgrade to be introduced.

Of course, I may make an exception to this rule with the Fuji MF camera...

:D

Let's hope that the bigger competition now with Sony A6500 vs Olympus will lead fast to lower prices. Same for Medium Format. I really would like to use Medium Format, no matter which brand, but the price range is simply out of my reach...
