I was lucky enough to be able to photograph two days of competition at the Georges Hermant pool in Paris.

The events were artistic swimming and diving. Over the next few days, I will be showing you images where the athletes are not recognizable. I hope one day to have agreements to publish others where they are.

Are the laws different in France? Here, if we are not profiting from the images, we don't need agreements if the photos were made in a public place.

Hi Jeremy,
In France, you may take pictures of anybody in a public place and publish them freely. If anybody feels wronged by the publication, they have to sue you and convince a tribunal that your picture did harm them. A swimming pool is a different matter. There were signs all over the place indicating that taking picture was not allowed. I was actually invited to take picture of a competition, with the understanding that I would seek permission for publication of pictures where people were recognizable.
