Poor blue contrast separation due to...?

I have been checking out, in part, my various monitor calibrations using this image (http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/all_noprofile.php#angle_purple). The gradations are easy to see for all colors except the blue...no matter the profile. Is the poor separation noted in this test image a function of the monitor or the lack of a proper profile? BTW, the monitor (Asus PA278QV) inately has 100% sRGB, but not so good for Adobe RGB. Thanks.
